“Dilbert” creator Scott Adams revealed on his podcast that he plans to convert to Christianity before he dies, describing the decision as one rooted in respect, logic and gratitude toward the Christians who have urged him to embrace the faith.

Adams made the announcement on his podcast, Real Coffee With Scott Adams, as he continues to publicly grapple with a terminal cancer diagnosis. The cartoonist disclosed on May 15, 2025, that he has prostate cancer, and he later told listeners that his odds of recovery are “essentially zero.” On a recent Sunday episode, Adams said Christian friends and followers have repeatedly encouraged him to convert before his death, a request he said he now intends to honor.

“I have not been a believer,” Adams said candidly. But he added that he has grown to deeply respect Christians who made the effort to try to convert him. “How would I believe you wouldn’t believe your own religion if you’re not trying to convert me?” he asked, framing their persistence as evidence of sincerity rather than pressure.

Adams said his decision is motivated not by fear, but by what he described as a rational assessment and a desire to respect the wishes of people who care about him. He explained that even if he has lingering skepticism, that doubt would be resolved immediately if there is an afterlife.

“As for any skepticism I may still have,” Adams said, “it will be instantly answered if I wake up in heaven.”

The creator of the long-running comic strip said he sees the decision as a clear risk-reward calculation. Speaking directly to his Christian listeners, Adams said he believes the choice makes sense on every level.

“I’m now convinced that the risk-reward is completely smart,” he said. “If it turns out that there’s nothing there, I’ve lost nothing, but I’ve respected your wishes and I like doing that. If it turns out there is something there and the Christian model is the closest to it, I win.”

Adams’ reflections come amid a series of public updates about his declining health. In November 2025, he posted on X asking President Donald Trump to intervene on his behalf after Adams said his healthcare provider, Kaiser of Northern California, failed to schedule a treatment using Pluvicto, a drug recently approved by the FDA. Adams said Trump’s involvement could give him “a fighting chance to stick around on this planet a little bit longer.”

The following month, Adams’ condition worsened. In December 2025, he was hospitalized due to complications that included severe constipation and paralysis in his lower body. From Dec. 13 through Dec. 20, Adams livestreamed episodes of his podcast directly from his hospital bed, continuing to speak to his audience despite the seriousness of his condition.

Since Dec. 21, Adams has resumed hosting his podcast from home, where he continues to offer candid updates about his health, reflections on mortality, and now, his plans to embrace Christianity. His announcement has resonated with listeners who have followed his long career as both a cartoonist and political commentator.

As Adams faces what he has described as the final chapter of his life, he framed his planned conversion not as a rejection of his past views, but as an act of respect toward those who cared enough to speak to him about faith — and as a choice he believes leaves nothing to lose and everything to gain.
