There was significant backlash this week after Vice President Kamala Harris announced that the Biden administration plans to compensate college students for registering voters and working at polling stations.
“We have been doing work to promote voter participation for students. For example, we have, under the Federal Work-Study program, now allow students to get paid through Federal Work-Study to register people and to be non-partisan poll workers.” Harris said.
“As we know, this is important for a number of reasons,” she added. “One, to engage our young leaders in this process and activate them in terms of their ability to strengthen our communities.” she continued.
A number of conservatives slammed Harris over the remarks and the potential election interference it implies.
