According to a new report that was confidentially released by the United Nations, Iran has significantly boosted its stockpile of highly enriched uranium over the past several weeks.
This comes as Tehran is gathering an essential raw material for the production of nuclear weapons.
It would be sufficient for Iran to create six nuclear weapons if it were to raise its stockpiles of uranium that had been enriched to sixty percent, which is close to weapons grade.
According to the study, Iran is currently manufacturing sufficient fissile material in a single month to produce one nuclear bomb.
The progress that Tehran has made comes at a time when the government has suggested that it is willing to negotiate with the United States regarding the limits of its nuclear goals. T
here have been statements made by the Trump administration that they intend to resume their strategy of “maximum pressure” on Iran; yet, President Trump has also expressed his desire to negotiate a nuclear deal.
According to a report from the United Nations, Tehran has accumulated approximately 275 kilograms of highly enriched uranium with a 60% enrichment level as of February 8, which is an increase from 182 kilograms in late October.
That is a fifty percent increase in just fifteen weeks. The fuel may be turned into material that is 90% suitable for weapons in a matter of days.
The news come in the wake of other reports that have indicated that the Trump administration is seriously considering a strike on the country in the near future in order to cripple its nuclear program.
