Israel will reportedly hand over Gaza to the United States, according to statements made by President Trump on Friday.
These statements are an expansion of his plan for an American takeover of the war-torn region, which he has warned will require the permanent relocation of Palestinian.
The President of the United States stated to the press that Gaza “will be given to us by Israel” and that his proposal to assume responsibility for the Gaza Strip, which is presently under the control of Hamas, has “been very well received.”
“We don’t want to see everybody move out and then move back in 10 years,” Trump noted.
After he rocked the policy of the United States toward the Middle East on Tuesday by announcing during a joint press conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he would support the resettlement of Palestinians into Egypt and Jordan, despite the fact that those countries rejected the deal, he stepped up his efforts to push for the Palestinians to leave Gaza.
A day earlier, the president made the assertion that Israel will hand over Gaza to the United States “at the conclusion of fighting.”
This would come after around sixteen months of a conflict against Hamas and a recently established ceasefire deal that was not very strong.
His notion about controlling Gaza, which was met with opposition from Arab leaders and some Republicans, has also given rise to doubts regarding whether or not a takeover of the region would necessitate the presence of members of the United States military on the ground.
Karoline Leavitt, the press secretary for the White House, stated on Wednesday that President Trump has not committed to sending the United States military into Gaza.
This is despite the fact that the president had suggested the night before that “we will do what is necessary.”
At a press conference on Wednesday, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth stated that the United States government is “a very long way” from intervening in the strip.
