Bobby Pulido, a 52-year-old Tejano music artist now running as a Democrat to unseat Rep. Monica De La Cruz in Texas’ 15th Congressional District, is facing renewed scrutiny over a long record of crude, misogynistic online behavior that is resurfacing as his political campaign intensifies.

Pulido, who launched his congressional bid last September, has a documented history of sharing explicit content and making degrading remarks about women on social media. One particularly graphic example dates back to June 2016, when Pulido posted an image of then–Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton and actress Chloë Grace Moretz holding donuts. In the image, the donut held by Clinton appeared noticeably larger. Pulido captioned the post in Spanish with a comment that translated to, “Girl, this is what happens to you after a natural childbirth,” an apparent sexual reference aimed at women’s bodies. Pulido was 43 years old at the time.

The tweet had not previously been reported and was deleted Tuesday after the the Pulido campaign was reached for comment. A campaign spokeswoman acknowledged the post, saying Pulido had used Twitter in the past to joke around and now recognizes that not everything he shared was appropriate, calling the post “regrettable.”

The 2016 tweet is not an isolated incident. In a 2023 Instagram post, Pulido shared an explicit photo showing a woman climbing onto the stage at one of his concerts and accidentally exposing herself. He captioned the image with a comment translating to, “Who said he didn’t have sex appeal?” The post sparked widespread criticism. While Pulido eventually removed it, he first pushed back against critics, accusing one fan of “judging” him and complaining that “Everyone wants to be the center of attention.”

These episodes add to what critics describe as a troubling pattern for a middle-aged congressional candidate seeking higher office. As Fox News has previously reported, Pulido has repeatedly used his online platforms to reference or promote pornography.

In 2013, he told followers that “they say that there’s a website called youporn and that it’s cool,” and shared a link to the adult website XVideos while making a suggestive remark. In 2014, Pulido declared that “It’s impossible to have Twitter and not watch porn.” The following year, he again shared a YouPorn link, later suggesting his account had been hacked.

Despite the record, Pulido has been embraced by national Democrats as a top recruit this election cycle. According to Politico, former Democratic Rep. Filemon Vela actively encouraged Pulido to run for the seat, praising his popularity, political instincts, and what he described as a center-right disposition.

Pulido now faces a competitive Democratic primary, where he is running against Dr. Ada Cuellar. The primary is scheduled for March 3.

As the race unfolds, Pulido’s past online conduct is emerging as a key issue, raising questions about judgment, character, and whether Democratic leaders fully vetted a candidate they promoted as a rising star in a critical Texas district.
