Jessica Aber, a former U.S. Attorney for the Eastern District of Virginia, was reportedly found dead over the weekend at the age of 43, as confirmed by the Alexandria Police Department.
Authorities responded to a report of an unresponsive woman on Beverley Drive on Saturday morning, where they located Aber’s body. Following family notification, police confirmed her identity.
An investigation into the circumstances surrounding her death is currently underway, with the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner of Virginia set to determine the cause and manner of death.
Aber was nominated by President Joe Biden in August 2021 and confirmed by the Senate in October of that year.
She served as U.S. Attorney for over three years before resigning on January 20, 2025, coinciding with the start of President Donald Trump’s second term.
Upon announcing her resignation, Aber expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to lead the office and reflected on her tenure as a prosecutor, highlighting the privilege of working alongside dedicated public servants addressing critical issues for citizens.
