A total of eight law enforcement agents were shot on Monday, of which four were killed, while carrying out a warrant at a residence in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the 5000 block of Galway Drive as the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, consisting of many agencies, was executing a warrant.
A SWAT squad was deployed to the location in order to regain control of the situation.
According to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings, out of the total of eight individuals that were shot, four were members of the U.S. Marshal’s Task Force and the remaining four were from the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department.
The report indicated that four officers lost their lives, one of them was an agent affiliated with the U.S. Marshals, a federal law enforcement agency.
One of the four individuals that sustained injuries is a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer, whose status is now rated as critical.
Authorities confirmed that the region was deemed safe on Monday evening, and there was no longer a need for the public in the vicinity to remain indoors.
The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said that one individual suspected of the shooting was fatally wounded at the location.
The police were executing a warrant for a convicted criminal who was found to be in possession of a handgun.
