Former President Trump has been invited by Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to engage in a formal debate with him at the forthcoming Libertarian Party convention.
Kennedy, an independent who contemplated defecting to the Libertarian Party following his unsuccessful Democratic primary campaign, intends to challenge Trump at the forum scheduled for later this month in Washington.
Kennedy cited data from the polling and analytics firm Zogby, which suggests that in a two-candidate contest, the environmental attorney emerges victorious over Trump, excluding the candidature of President Biden from the hypothetical scenario.
In recent weeks, Kennedy has exerted pressure on both Trump and Biden to engage in a debate with him, in an effort to elevate his profile and achieve greater parity with the presumptive nominees of the mainstream.
Both Republicans and Democrats hold an equally sceptical stance regarding the possibility of a debate featuring two or more candidates alongside Kennedy.
They highlight Biden’s non-committal stance and Trump’s aversion to engaging in debates of this nature.
