President Donald Trump is reportedly now set to sign an executive order establishing a Religious Liberty Commission during the National Day of Prayer event in the White House Rose Garden.
This initiative aims to support social conservatives who played a crucial role in his election.
The commission will consist of clergy, legal experts, and key allies, tasked with producing a comprehensive report on the foundations and threats to religious liberty in the United States.
Texas Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick will lead the commission, with Dr. Ben Carson serving as vice chair. Notable members include Bishop Robert Barron, Cardinal Timothy Dolan, Pastor Franklin Graham, and Rabbi Meier Soloveichik.
The commission will focus on six critical areas: parental rights in education, conscience protections, attacks on houses of worship, free speech, school choice, and institutional autonomy.
It will provide guidance to the White House Faith Office and the Domestic Policy Council on relevant executive and legislative actions.
This move follows Trump’s previous commitments to protect religious freedoms, criticizing the Biden administration for allegedly targeting peaceful Christians while ignoring anti-Christian violence.
He has pointed to instances where the Department of Justice prosecuted pro-life Christians for their demonstrations outside abortion facilities.
In a prior executive order, Trump emphasized his administration’s commitment to ending the perceived bias against Christians in government policies.
He pledged that any unlawful actions targeting Christians would be addressed and rectified.
The establishment of the Religious Liberty Commission reflects Trump’s ongoing efforts to reinforce his support for religious freedoms and to address what he views as significant threats to those liberties in contemporary America.
