Andrew Yang, a former presidential candidate, has reportedly announced that he will support Vice President Harris and her subsequent running companion in the November general election.
This decision was made in response to his criticism of the Democrats’ previous selection of President Biden as their nominee.
Yang stated in a post on X on Tuesday that he is concerned about the possibility of a second term for Trump and that the former president lacks the “character” to serve.
“Donald Trump has the wrong character and capacities to be President in my view. I fear his second term would make his first one seem benign in accelerating the decline of our institutions. I’ll be voting for Kamala Harris and her running mate in November. Let’s go!” Yang said.
In the past Yang, the tech entrepreneur who unsuccessfully pursued the Democratic presidential nomination in 2020 had expressed stark criticism of the Democratic Party’s nomination of Biden and urged the president to withdraw from the race for reelection.
On Sunday, Biden opted to abandon his reelection campaign in response to the increasingly strident demands of his own party members.
After his announcement, Biden promptly endorsed Harris, and the vice president formally initiated her campaign.
Yang stated in an interview with NewsNation’s Dan Abrams earlier this month that he was of the opinion that Biden was on the brink of a “historic loss” that would return the White House to Trump and the GOP control of Congress.
This statement was made prior to Biden’s announcement.
He also expressed concerns that Biden would lose in January, months prior to the president’s lackluster debate last month, which further exacerbated concerns regarding Biden’s candidacy.
He stated at a campaign event with Rep. Dean Phillips (D-Minn.), who previously ran against Biden in the primaries, that Biden would “deliver us Trump the sequel.”
Yang had endorsed Biden for president in 2020, following Super Tuesday.
