Only hours after the president’s major interview with George Stephanopoulos, vulnerable House Democrat Rep. Angie Craig of Minnesota’s 2nd District reportedly declared on Saturday that there is “too much at stake” to count on President Joe Biden being able to campaign and win against Republican Donald Trump in the fall.
“As an elected leader, I feel a responsibility to be honest about what I believe, even when it’s hard to hear,” Craig said.
“President Biden is a good man & I appreciate his lifetime of service. But I believe he should step aside for the next generation of leadership.” she continued in her statement.
“However. Given what I saw and heard from the President during last week’s debate in Atlanta, coupled with the lack of a forceful response from the President himself following that debate, I do not believe that the President can effectively campaign and win against Donald Trump.” she concluded.
Representative Craig is among the 2024 DCCC Frontline candidates, which are members occupying crucial seats that the party has designated as susceptible in 2024 and for whom the party would allocate more funds and resources to safeguard those seats.
The president had his first interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos on Friday, following his terrible performance against Trump at the CNN presidential debate.
Members of his party have been raising more and more concerns about his health and his chances of winning the election and becoming president since the debate.
The possibility of his replacing Biden as the nominee has grown significantly, and Stephanopoulos discussed it with the president on Friday, while some people’s worries remained unabated.
