According to a new report, former President Donald Trump was about to choose Gov. Doug Burgum (R-ND) as his running mate right before his sons persuaded him to go with Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH) at the last minute.

As per NBC News, which cited a veteran Republican strategist acquainted with the vice presidential discussions, Trump’s kids became quite agitated about the idea of having Burgum at the bottom of the ticket.

“Don Jr. and Eric went bats— crazy: ‘Why would you do something so stupid? He offers us nothing,’ They were basically all like ‘JD, JD, JD,’” the source claimed.

The story claims that late last week, Trump spoke extensively with each of his three nominees, Burgum, Vance, and Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL).

The Constitution forbids a state’s electors from voting for both a presidential and a vice presidential candidate from their home state, hence Florida electors could not vote for both Trump and Rubio.

This is why Rubio’s residence in Florida was reportedly considered by Trump as an impassable barrier.

Regarding Burgum, it appears that the decisive factor against him may have been a pro-Browum Fox News remark from renowned Republican strategist Karl Rove, who is highly esteemed in the MAGA community.

According to NBC, Don Jr. sent Trump a Breitbart article on Rove’s commendation of Burgum right away, and Trump did not take kindly to it.
