Federal authorities are now reportedly facing renewased scrutiny after a whistleblower claimed that surveillance footage from the jail where Jeffrey Epstein died in 2019 may have been altered before being released to the public.

The allegation, if substantiated, could raise significant questions about transparency and accountability surrounding Epstein’s death, which was officially ruled a suicide.

According to reports, the video footage from the Metropolitan Correctional Center in Manhattan—captured in the hours before Epstein’s death—was allegedly modified prior to being disclosed.

The claim was made during a House hearing this week, where lawmakers from both parties expressed concern about the integrity of the evidence and the broader circumstances surrounding Epstein’s death while in federal custody.

Representative Tim Burchett of Tennessee, a Republican who has pushed for more aggressive oversight into the Epstein case, said that according to whistleblower information, “the video was messed with” before being made public.

He also cited apparent inconsistencies and lapses in standard jail procedures, including a reported malfunction of cameras outside Epstein’s cell and the claim that guards had falsified records.

The Justice Department has not commented directly on the most recent allegations, but the Bureau of Prisons has previously acknowledged multiple failures in Epstein’s incarceration, including staff shortages, inattentive guards, and broken security equipment.

Epstein, a wealthy financier with connections to powerful figures in business, politics, and royalty, was facing federal sex trafficking charges when he died in August 2019.

His death sparked widespread speculation and conspiracy theories, fueled in part by irregularities in the official account and the high-profile nature of his associates.

Critics have long argued that the investigation into Epstein’s death has lacked transparency and thoroughness.

The latest claims are expected to intensify calls from lawmakers for the full release of unredacted evidence, including surveillance footage, guard logs, and communications from the night of Epstein’s death.

At the House hearing, members of both parties called on federal agencies to disclose all remaining documents and video materials related to Epstein’s time in custody.

Representative Anna Paulina Luna, a Florida Republican, said the footage should be “fully released without obstruction,” echoing broader public demands for clarity.

With new whistleblower testimony emerging and bipartisan frustration mounting, pressure is growing on federal officials to provide a fuller accounting of what happened in Epstein’s final hours—and to address lingering questions that have yet to be resolved.
