According to French broadcast media, the CEO and founder of the widely used messaging service Telegram has now reportedly been apprehended at a Paris airport.
According to broadcasters LCI and TF1, Pavel Durov, a dual citizen of France and Russia, was apprehended at Paris-Le Bourget Airport on Saturday evening after arriving in France from Azerbaijan.
According to the broadcasters, Durov, 39, was informed by investigators from the National Anti-Fraud Office, which is affiliated with the French customs department, that he was being taken into police detention.
Durov’s warrant was issued by France at the request of the special unit at the interior ministry, which is responsible for investigating crimes against juveniles, according to French media.
The following are examples of online sexual exploitation: the possession and distribution of child sexual abuse content and the manipulation of children for sexual purposes.
In both Ukraine and Russia, Telegram remains a favored source of news. It is utilized by both media outlets and officials to disseminate information regarding the conflict and to distribute missile and air raid alerts.
According to a French judicial official, Durov may be required to appear before a magistrate later on Sunday to ascertain whether he will continue to be held in custody.
The official was not authorized to be publicly identified during an ongoing investigation.
Western governments have frequently criticized Telegram for its failure to implement censorship protocols that are in line with liberal and left wing values on the messaging service.
