In Brazil, the social media platform X will shutter its office due to a legal dispute with the Supreme Court of the South American nation.

The dispute pertains to a purported secret order to remove certain posts from the site.

The social media platform will continue to be accessible to users in Brazil.

X shared a screenshot of the order from Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes, who has been conducting an investigation into digital militias that have been accused of disseminating hate messages and false news during the administration of far-right former President Jair Bolsanaro.

Moraes allegedly threatened to impose a daily fine of $3,650 and an arrest decree on X representative Rachel Nova Conceicao if the platform failed to comply with his order.

Moraes instructed X to disable a portion of those accounts earlier in the year.

Musk informed X that he would reactivate the accounts that the judge had ordered to be blocked after X complied.
