On Thursday, Elon Musk, the owner of X, referred to Brazilian Supreme Court Judge Alexandre de Moraes as a “evil dictator” after he had issued a threat to shutter the billionaire’s social media platform in Brazil.

The months-long dispute between Musk and de Moraes reached a crescendo on Wednesday night when the judge ordered X to designate a legal representative in Brazil within 24 hours or risk a ban.

The platform was functioning routinely in the country just before midnight on Thursday.

X’s Brazilian office was shuttered earlier this month following de Moraes’ directive to eliminate posts from the platform.

The judge threatened to impose a detention decree and a daily fine of $3,650 on Rachel Nova Conceicao, the representative of X, if it failed to comply.

In April, Musk challenged an order from de Moraes that directed the platform to restrict certain accounts in the country and promised to undo the restrictions. Nevertheless, X ultimately declared that it would adhere to the regulations.

Starlink, Musk’s satellite company, disclosed on Thursday that de Moraes had frozen its finances and was preventing the company from undertaking financial transactions in Brazil.
