Seven suspects, who are believed to be inspired by ISIS, were apprehended by Indonesian police in connection with a terror conspiracy to assassinate Pope Francis.
Pope Francis was reportedly the target of the thwarted ploy during his visit to Indonesia, where he commenced a 12-day tour of the Asia Pacific.
The suspects were apprehended on September 2 and 3, following a report from concerned citizens.
According to The Straits Times, police conducted an investigation on one of the alleged militant’s residences and discovered ISIS leaflets, a drone, and bow and arrows.
It appears that the Pope’s visit to a mosque in Jakarta incited the aspiring militants.
The alleged maniac Jihadis were reportedly incensed when Indonesian TV stations were requested not to broadcast the traditional Islamic call to prayer during Pope Francis’ visit.
The 87-year-old leader of the Catholic Church is traveling to Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, East Timor, and Singapore during his 12-day tour.
