The FBI reportedly revealed Monday that investigators recovered forensic evidence of a note allegedly written by Tyler Robinson, the man accused of assassinating conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
According to FBI Director Kash Patel, the note left little doubt about Robinson’s intent.
“The suspect wrote a note saying, ‘I have the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk, and I’m going to take it,’” Patel said during an appearance on Fox and Friends. “That note was written before the shooting. Evidence of its existence — we now have learned existed before the shooting — was in the location in the suspect and partner’s home.”
Though the note itself had been destroyed, Patel said the bureau’s forensic teams managed to reconstruct its contents. “We have found forensic evidence of the note, and we have confirmed what that note says, because of our aggressive interview posture at the FBI,” Patel explained.
The discovery adds to the mounting body of evidence against Robinson, 22, who was arrested in connection with the assassination but has thus far refused to cooperate with law enforcement.
Authorities said he was taken into custody on suspicion of aggravated murder, though formal charges have not yet been filed.
Patel noted that FBI investigators have also collected DNA from physical items left at the crime scene. “We have DNA evidence they collected from a screwdriver found at the scene as well as a towel used to wrap the gun allegedly used for the shooting,” he said.
Later on Monday, FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino appeared on Fox to underscore the bureau’s efforts to determine whether Robinson acted alone or was part of a broader effort. “If this was a larger effort, there was any aiding and abetting, whether it be financial, whether it be someone who knew the specifics of it and failed to report that, as you heard the director say this morning: We, as the FBI, our team, along with our state and local partners are looking into that,” Bongino said.
That investigation into a possible “extended network,” as Bongino put it, highlights concerns among conservatives that attacks against high-profile figures on the right are not isolated but increasingly targeted.
Robinson’s refusal to disclose his motives has only deepened suspicions about potential coordination.
Kirk, a prominent activist and commentator, has long drawn sharp criticism from progressive groups for his outspoken defense of conservative principles and his willingness to confront the political left.
His assassination has sent shockwaves through conservative circles and renewed questions about political violence.
The FBI’s findings suggest the attack was not spontaneous but carefully premeditated. Robinson’s destroyed note, forensic trail, and possible outside support paint a picture of an operation that may extend beyond a single individual.
Patel emphasized that the bureau, working with state and local authorities, would leave no stone unturned. “Our aggressive interview posture” and forensic breakthroughs, he said, would continue to drive the investigation forward.
For now, the suspect remains in custody, silent about his motives, as investigators work to determine whether the killing of Charlie Kirk was the act of a lone extremist—or part of something larger.
