Bill Maher, a comedian and television personality, attributed the Democratic party’s loss of the White House, both chambers of Congress, and the Supreme Court to its “aggressively anti-common sense agenda.”
Maher’s remarks are made in the context of President-elect Trump’s imminent return to the White House, the GOP’s control of both the Senate and the House, and the Supreme Court’s 6-3 conservative supermajority.
“I will conclude by saying: the reason I’m so mad at the Democrats is because, as a voter, the issues that were important to me were democracy and the environment and now, there’s no one to champion or defend either of them because you, with your aggressively anti-common sense agenda and sh– exclusionary attitude, blew it,” Maher said.
“You lost everything: House, Senate, White House, Supreme Court and left us completely unprotected and ready to be violated,” he added.
Since the devastating losses that occurred after Election Day, Democrats have been pointing fingers.
Ineffective messaging regarding household economic concerns, including inflation, wages, and the growing inequality of wealth, is the source of the party’s difficulties for certain individuals.
Others attribute the issue to the contentious discourse surrounding the Israel-Hamas conflict. For others, the issues are associated with cultural wars, such as the one over transgender rights.
Maher also accused Democrats of failing to connect with voters.
“Maybe take the clothes pins off your noses and actually converse with the other half of the country. Stop screaming at people to get with the program and instead make a program worth getting with,” Maher concluded.
