Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) has reportedly utilized Instagram to address the concerns of split-ticket electors from the previous week’s election. Cortez posted a question box for users who were “People who supported [President-elect] Trump & me OR voted Trump/Dem, tell us why.”
“I’m LISTENING. Sometimes you gotta dig in and see it to understand and adapt! Even if it makes you want to barf.” she added.
She received a diverse array of responses from her 8.1 million followers and beyond, who cited a variety of reasons, including the conflict in Gaza and Trump and Ocasio-Cortez’s “care for the working class.”
She further stated that door knocking and phone banking are not “junior” activities that legislators should outgrow.
Additionally, she published a post that inquired about the sources of news that progressives and Trump-supporting voters rely on, and she also shared some of the responses.
“This is why I say that we should be signing up to knock on doors and be on the phones. If you’re only tuning in to [mass media], you will think that most people fall along this spectrum, and a lot of people don’t.” she said.
Last week, Ocasio-Cortez emerged victorious in her re-election campaign in New York, and she will continue to serve as the representative of the 14th Congressional District of the state.
