On Friday, the Justice Department reportedly disclosed an alleged Iranian plot to assassinate President-elect Trump during his campaign this autumn.
According to a recently unsealed criminal complaint, Farhad Shakeri, 51, who is currently facing charges of murder-for-hire, allegedly informed FBI agents that an Iranian official had assigned him the task of assassinating Trump in September.
According to the complaint, Shakeri had previously conspired with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps to assassinate other U.S. citizens.
However, the official instructed him to abandon these endeavors in order to concentrate on the former president.
During his presidential campaign, Trump was the victim of two assassination attempts. In July, an assailant shot him in the ear at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Subsequently, months later, an additional individual appeared on the outskirts of Trump’s West Palm Beach, Florida, golf course with a firearm.
Federal officials have cautioned Trump that Iran is attempting to assassinate him, although no evidence has been discovered to suggest that either individual was involved in a broader conspiracy.
The complaint filed on Friday provides the most comprehensive information to date regarding the Iranian plan to assassinate Trump, following the disclosure of the plot during the summer.
In September, intelligence agencies provided Trump with a briefing on the matter; however, the public has been provided with limited information regarding the country’s plans to execute an attack.
