On Sunday, during an episode of “Cats Roundtable” on WABC 770 AM, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich (R-Pa.) praised President-elect Trump’s reshaping of the government with his unexpected cabinet choices.
“I’m watching President Trump create the most reform-oriented cabinet in my lifetime,” Gingrich said.
He also stated that the nomination of former House Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii), Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), and Fox News presenter Pete Hegseth by Trump would establish a “amazing team.”
“It’s going to take enormous courage and resilience on the part of Pete Hegseth to survive over there because the whole old order is going to try to destroy him,” he added.
The selection of Hegseth has prompted inquiries from legislators regarding his qualifications, resume, and capacity to oversee the nation’s defense initiatives.
However, Gingrich is of the opinion that his distinctive heritage would enable him to implement the necessary restructuring for the military.
“I’ve been actively involved in thinking about and working on defense for an extraordinarily long time. And I can tell you, the building needs a very complete overhaul,” Gingrich explained.
“I had one senior person in the military who retired, who was working with Trump, who said he would recommend the president have every three and four star general retire,” he continued.
The former president is reportedly in the process of drafting an executive order that would initiate external evaluations of senior military personnel, which could lead to their dismissal.
