President Donald Trump on Sunday reportedly pledged to send Americans a $2,000 “dividend” payment as part of his renewed push to rally public support for his tariff policies, which he credits for strengthening the U.S. economy.

“People that are against Tariffs are FOOLS!” Trump wrote on Truth Social. “We are now the Richest, Most Respected Country In the World, With Almost No Inflation, and A Record Stock Market Price. 401k’s are Highest EVER. We are taking in Trillions of Dollars and will soon begin paying down our ENORMOUS DEBT, $37 Trillion.”

He added that “a dividend of at least $2000 a person (not including high income people!) will be paid to everyone.”

The president’s comments followed his administration’s defense of its tariff authority before the Supreme Court last week, where Trump has argued that tariffs are a lawful and necessary tool of national security and economic policy.

In a follow-up post, Trump questioned the court’s skepticism toward his powers. “So, let’s get this straight???” he wrote. “The President of the United States is allowed (and fully approved by Congress!) to stop ALL TRADE with a Foreign Country … but is not allowed to put a simple Tariff on a Foreign Country, even for purposes of NATIONAL SECURITY. That is NOT what our great Founders had in mind!”

Trump went on to argue that tariffs have been essential in reviving American manufacturing. “Businesses are pouring into the USA ONLY BECAUSE OF TARIFFS,” he said. “HAS THE UNITED STATES SUPREME COURT NOT BEEN TOLD THIS??? WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON???”

While critics have long claimed tariffs raise prices for consumers, Trump’s announcement reframes the policy as a direct return to American workers — a populist economic message that ties trade policy to everyday prosperity.
