Friday, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has now reportedly announced that he will be terminating dozens of regional military recruitment center directors due to shocking allegations of widespread corruption.
Ukraine is regularly listed as one of the most corrupt countries in the world.
Zelensky stated in a recent address to the nation that there are 112 criminal cases involving 33 suspects.
“Some took cash, some took cryptocurrency — that’s the only difference. The cynicism is the same everywhere,” Zelensky said.
“Illicit enrichment, legalization of illegally obtained funds, illegal benefit, illegal transportation of persons liable for military service across the border. … We are dismissing all regional ‘military commissars.’ This system should be run by people who know exactly what war is and why cynicism and bribery in times of war constitute treason.” he continued.
Zelensky stated that he was promptly filling the positions with disabled Ukrainian soldiers in an effort to eradicate corruption in the military.
To maintain support from the U.S. and other allies who have provided and committed more than $165 billion in military, financial, and reconstruction aid, the Ukrainian president is under pressure to ferret out and protect against corruption in Ukraine’s government.
