Westchester County District Attorney’s Office is now reportedly investigating James O’Keefe, the founder and CEO of the right-wing nonprofit Project Veritas until this past February.
Although the nature of the investigation is not yet known, the timing suggests that it is related to O’Keefe’s alleged financial improprieties.
Veritas’ board of directors accused O’Keefe in February of spending “an excessive amount of donor funds on personal luxuries” during their very public feud over its management and future.
In May, attorneys for Project Veritas filed a civil complaint against O’Keefe, accusing him of breaching his contract and fiduciary duties to the group.
The Veritas group claims that the organization did not initiate the Westchester DA’s investigation into its former leader via a formal criminal referral despite pending litigation, made public alongside a detailed new timeline reiterating the board’s own version of its disputes and grievances with O’Keefe.
O’Keefe is accused of spending $14,000 on a charter flight to meet someone to fix his boat. In addition to allegedly spending more than $150,000 on high-end limousine services and thousands more on DJ equipment. According to them, O’Keefe also requested $60,000 for dance events, including the creation of pop music designed to celebrate his own career.
