On Friday, Senator Rand Paul (R-Kentucky) criticized Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Kentucky) for his “outrageous” support of the Plan B foreign aid bill, which McConnell had drafted down to border security provisions.
Instead of addressing the border crisis, he criticized his Senate colleagues for focusing on providing additional aid to Ukraine and Israel during their ongoing conflicts.
“It’s criminal neglect for Mitch McConnell, Chuck Schumer, and Joe Biden to get together to send $100 billion overseas to fix someone else’s border before addressing our border,” Paul said during a recent Fox Business interview.
In response to Biden’s assertion that failing to aid Ukraine constituted neglect, Paul condemned the practice of negotiating an agreement to fund the militaries of foreign governments without first addressing the U.S.-Mexico border.
“We have an emergency, we have an invasion. We have 700,000 people who came across in the last two months, and they’re willing just to punt on that. You know, they put forward a fake proposal, it wasn’t any good. We shot it down.” Paul stated in a separate interview with Mediaite.
“But that doesn’t mean we’re ready to give up on it. Many of us want to fight. Thirty-two of us out of 48, three-fourths of us, said we wanted to keep fighting, and wanted to actually fix the border before we ship $100 billion of our money overseas.” he continued.
The Senate approved the bill by a vote of 64-19 on Friday evening, disregarding the border provisions that were withdrawn by Schumer (D-N.Y.) following the backing of the original bipartisan package by only a smattering of Republican senators.
On Friday, Paul vowed to postpone votes on a $95.3 billion measure after describing it as dreadful.
