On Tuesday, former President Trump reportedly implied that he would prohibit transgender athletes from participating on sports teams that correspond in which they would have an unfair physical advantage through an executive order if he is reelected next month.
Trump was asked by an audience member how he would address “the transgender issue” in women’s athletics as president during a taped town hall in Cumming, Ga., with Fox News’s Harris Faulkner.
“It’s such an easy question, and everybody in the room, and you know that answer. We’re not going to let it happen.” Trump said.
Trump cited a viral video of a transgender college volleyball player in California who spiked a ball in their opponent’s face in his response.
Trump has repeatedly expressed his intention to prohibit transgender individuals, whom he refers to as “men,” from participating in female athletics if he is reelected to the White House next year.
However, he has not provided a detailed plan for how his administration would implement this policy.
In 2022, the former president pledged to sign a number of executive orders to address the “left-wing gender insanity” in the United States if he were reelected.
One of these orders instructed federal agencies to discontinue programs that “promote” the notion that an individual can transition to a different gender.
In May, Trump also declared that he would reverse the radical new transgender student protections that were implemented by the Biden administration this year “on day one” of his presidency.
The new Title IX regulations of the Education Department, to which Trump was alluding, encompass discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity in schools and education programs.
