According to the results of a new poll that was carried out by the Progressive Democrats of America, former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is expected to emerge victorious in a ranked-choice Democratic primary for the position of mayor of New York City, despite the fact that he has not officially entered the contest.
Among the contenders who are expected to run for office, Cuomo is currently in the lead with 32 percent of first-choice votes.
This puts him in a significant lead over former City Comptroller Scott Stringer (10 percent), current Comptroller Brad Lander (8 percent), and Queens State Senator Jessica Ramos (7 percent).
A tie was reached between Assemblymember Zohran Mandani and the embattled incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, who received only 6% of the vote.
Cuomo would emerge victorious in the fifth round of a simulated ranked-choice election with 51% of the vote, leaving Stringer (16%), Ramos (14%), and Lander (14%), who are all in a distant second place.
The poll indicated that Adams, who is now facing a number of challenges, including low support ratings and continuing federal corruption probes, will experience an early elimination.
Additionally, the survey indicated that Adams had terrible approval ratings, with 71% of respondents having a negative view of the mayor according to the report.
Cuomo’s favorability among Democrats, on the other hand, stood at 48% to 44%, with 44% of Democrats viewing him in a negative light.
Adams disregarded the survey, citing previous instances in which his prospects of winning the election were underestimated.
There are many who have criticized the poll, including those who are insiders in the Adams campaign, who believe that it over-samples liberal voters and that it is not accurate in portraying the Democratic electorate as a whole.
