President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to offer Iran what could be termed a “last chance” proposal regarding its nuclear program, according to sources from both U.S. and European officials.
This anticipated move comes amid heightened tensions in the region, particularly with Israel’s ongoing military actions against Iranian targets.
In discussions with ABC News, Trump confirmed that, while the United States has not yet engaged in the conflict, he is open to the possibility of U.S. involvement should hostilities escalate further.
“It looks like Iran isn’t winning this war. They need to talk before it’s too late,” he stated, emphasizing the urgency for diplomatic negotiations.
The expected proposal is said to be an improvement over a previous offer made to Iran just over a week ago, and it will likely adhere to the principle of zero uranium enrichment—a core demand of the U.S. administration.
In an effort to facilitate dialogue, Iran has reportedly reached out to Oman and Qatar to mediate with Washington, seeking to halt Israeli strikes and resume negotiations.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, however, remains skeptical about Iran’s intentions, denouncing their outreach as an attempt to prolong negotiations without genuine commitment.
“They want to continue these phony talks—to lie, deceive, and drag the U.S. along,” he remarked, highlighting Israel’s solid intelligence on the matter.
Despite the U.S. administration’s cautious optimism, an Israeli official indicated that Israel has not yet received any formal communication regarding these negotiations. “The negotiations are currently between Tehran and Washington,” the official noted, while Israel continues its military efforts to target Iranian positions.
In a significant military move, the U.S. has confirmed the deployment of the USS Nimitz aircraft carrier and additional refueling aircraft to the Middle East.
This bolstering of military assets suggests that Trump is prepared to use military options as leverage in negotiations, a strategy that has drawn mixed reactions within his administration.
Dan Shapiro, a former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense, commented on the implications of such military readiness, suggesting that the threat of force could compel Iran to make concessions, particularly regarding its enrichment activities.
“Trump can use the threat as leverage to get Iran to agree to return to the table,” he stated.
As diplomatic efforts unfold, the international community watches closely, aware that the stakes are high and the potential for conflict remains palpable.
