Rep. Randy Fine of Florida reportedly unleashed a blistering attack on Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota during a Sunday appearance on Newsmax, saying she should not only be removed from Congress but expelled from the United States altogether.
Speaking with host Lidia Curanaj, Fine said he agrees with President Donald Trump’s long-standing criticism of Omar and argued that her presence in Congress highlights what he views as deep failures in America’s legal immigration system.
“Ilhan Omar is a walking example of everything that is wrong with our legal immigration policy,” Fine said. He claimed the United States has brought in large numbers of people who, in his words, “hate America,” contribute nothing, and exploit the system. “We imported tens of thousands of people who hate America, add no value to it, rob and steal from us, and we’re supposed to be okay with it?” he asked.
Fine said his criticism goes beyond congressional discipline. “I don’t think Ilhan Omar should be expelled from Congress,” he said. “I think she should be expelled from the United States, and that is something that I am working on.”
The Florida lawmaker said his push intensified after Omar suggested in fundraising emails that he should be removed from Congress. Fine said he viewed those attacks as further evidence of her unfitness to serve and revealed that he is actively exploring ways to force a vote on removing her from the House.
His remarks echo recent statements from President Trump, who has repeatedly criticized Omar and her rhetoric. Weeks earlier, Trump referred to Omar as “garbage,” called her an antisemite, and described her as a “terrible person.” Trump also said he does not want more Somalis like Omar immigrating to the United States, accusing them of exploiting American taxpayers.
“They contribute nothing. I don’t want them in our country, I’ll be honest with you,” Trump said at the time. He dismissed concerns about political correctness, saying he does not care if critics object to his blunt language. “Their country is no good for a reason,” he added.
Trump’s comments came shortly after a New York Times report detailed a large fraud scheme allegedly orchestrated by some Somalis living in Minnesota. According to federal prosecutors cited in the report, the scheme stole more than $1 billion in taxpayer funds. Fox News reporter Garrett Tenney later reported that whistleblowers believe the total amount of fraud could be far higher, potentially exceeding $8 billion.
Fine referenced those reports as part of his broader argument that the current system is being abused and that Omar’s record and rhetoric reflect that breakdown. He framed his comments as a call for accountability and a tougher stance on immigration, rather than as personal animus.
Omar has pushed back forcefully against Trump and his allies, accusing the president of having what she described as a “creepy obsession” with her and with Somalis more broadly. She has repeatedly denounced Trump’s language as inflammatory and offensive.
The escalating war of words underscores a deepening divide over immigration, national identity, and the limits of political rhetoric. Fine’s comments mark one of the most aggressive attacks yet from a Republican lawmaker, reflecting how Omar continues to serve as a lightning rod in the broader debate over America’s immigration policies and who gets to represent the country in Congress.
