President Donald Trump said Friday night that the Department of Justice should stop pouring its energy into releasing files tied to convicted child sex predator Jeffrey Epstein and instead refocus on what he described as far more pressing concerns, including election fraud.
Trump made the comments in a post on his Truth Social platform after the Justice Department announced it had identified more than one million additional pages of Epstein-related material that could be released. The revelation sparked renewed debate over the scope and pace of the document dump, which Trump has repeatedly criticized.
“Now 1,000,000 more pages on Epstein are found,” Trump wrote. “DOJ is being forced to spend all of its time on this Democrat inspired Hoax. When do they say NO MORE, and work on Election Fraud etc.”
The Justice Department has already released thousands of pages connected to Epstein and has said it needs additional weeks to fully comply with a law passed by Congress and signed by Trump that mandates disclosure of the remaining files. The administration technically missed the deadline earlier this month to release all the documents, and critics have pointed to the heavy redactions in the files that have been made public so far.
Trump has expressed frustration that the Epstein matter continues to dominate headlines and consume federal resources, arguing it distracts from issues he says directly affect the integrity of the country. In his post, he insisted Democrats, not Republicans, were the ones who worked closely with Epstein.
“The Dems are the ones who worked with Epstein, not the Republicans,” Trump wrote. He called for the release of names tied to Democrats, saying doing so would embarrass them and allow the government to move on to helping the country. Trump also accused the “Radical Left” of using Epstein as a political weapon to deflect attention away from what he described as Republican successes.
According to Trump, Democrats want to keep the focus on Epstein, whom he described as “long ago dead,” rather than allow public discussion of accomplishments under his leadership. He characterized the continued attention on the case as “just another Witch Hunt.”
Trump’s post followed a Christmas message he had shared earlier in which he blasted “sleazebags” who once associated with Epstein before abruptly cutting ties when scrutiny intensified. In that message, Trump again emphasized that he had distanced himself from Epstein well before it became politically convenient to do so.
“Of course, President Donald J. Trump, who was actually the only one who did drop Epstein, and long before it became fashionable to do so,” he wrote, reiterating a point he has made repeatedly in response to attempts to link him to Epstein.
The Epstein case has continued to generate controversy as document releases roll out in stages, with critics on both sides accusing the Justice Department of mishandling the process. Trump, however, has been clear that he believes the issue is being exploited for political purposes and that federal law enforcement should instead prioritize investigations he views as essential to protecting the democratic process.
As the DOJ works through the remaining files, Trump’s comments underscore a broader debate over transparency, accountability, and where the federal government should be directing its attention at a time when multiple high-profile issues compete for public focus.
