Sunday, In-N-Out Burger made the decision to close its sole establishment in Oakland, California, citing criminal activity that has rendered the area hazardous for both staff and patrons.
The Oakland Police Department’s annual crime statistics indicate that between 2022 and 2023, burglaries increased by 23% and robberies increased by 38%, respectively, as reported by The Mercury News.
Only a few miles separate the closing location and Oakland International Airport.
The crime rate at the location was so high that security officers stated to a local publication that they received the most theft reports of any property they patrol, averaging five break-ins per “regular” day.
The food spot will cease operations permanently on Sunday, March 24, 2024.
All employees may transfer to a nearby In-N-Out location for employment or receive a severance compensation, according to the chain.
