Actor Mel Gibson reportedly put forward several conspiratorial sentiments during a new Fox News segment over what he termed “convenient” circumstances surrounding the catastrophic California wildfires, questioning whether they were “commissioned” to displace individuals from valuable real estate.

The wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles region have monopolized the news this week and have escalated into a political conflict.

President-elect Donald Trump has been criticizing Governor Gavin Newsom (D-CA), while Democratic leaders have faced scrutiny over their preparedness and response to flames exacerbated by strong Santa Ana winds.

Gibson, who stated that his residence was “completely destroyed” in the fire and has allied with Trump in criticizing Newsom, appeared on Friday night’s episode of Fox News Channel’s The Ingraham Angle, where he participated in considerable speculation regarding the cause of the fires.

“Well, you know, I know there were messing with the water, letting reserves go for one reason or another. They’ve been doing that a while. California has a lot of problems that sort of baffle the mind as far as why they do things.” Gibson said.

“And then in the events like this, you sort of look, well, is it on purpose? Which, it’s an insane thing to think. But one begins to ponder whether or not there is a purpose in mind. What could it be? You know, what do they want? The state empty? I don’t know.” he added.

“Well, now there’s already talk. And we played a couple of soundbites. Of re-imagining the way rebuilding occurs. And obviously there’s a great need for high density housing in California and across the country. That’s a big push by the climate folks. And you’re already hearing rumblings of that. In this case, like goodbye single family homes. Hello high density housing!” Gibson said in response.
