Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) reportedly said on Sunday that she will introduce a resolution on Tuesday to name Antifa a terrorist organization, after blaming the group for protests at an Atlanta police training center.
Since its announcement, a progressive organization named “Stop Cop City” has been protesting the new training complex being built in the woodland areas of Atlanta, claiming it would encourage police militarization and raise environmental issues.
According to Fox 5, the site was placed under lockdown on Sunday after at least one construction vehicle was set on fire during the latest demonstrations.
Flames and flames were spotted rising from the proposed Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, dubbed “Cop City” by anti-police protesters.
FOX 5 Atlanta video shows a bulldozer and other pieces of equipment on fire.
The training center is located on Key Road in southeast Atlanta, where protesters opposing the building’s construction battled with police.
A Molotov cocktail was thrown, according to a Georgia State Trooper.
In 2021, the City Council authorized investing $90 million on the training facility in an effort to replace subpar services and boost police morale, which had been harmed by the 2020 protests against George Floyd’s death.
Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) presented a proposal in 2021 to declare Antifa a terrorist organization, but it failed to get support in the Democrat-controlled House.
