The so-called ‘QAnon Shaman,’ who reportedly pled guilty to storming the US Capitol on January 6, was freed from jail 14 months early and has now apparently been sent to a halfway house.
The news comes weeks after newly released video from the day appeared to show Jacob Chansley, the ‘QAnon Shaman’ being escorted around the capital by officers.
In September 2021, Jacob Chansley, 35, pled guilty to civil disruption and violent entrance into the Capitol, among other offenses, and was sentenced to 41 months in federal prison.
Chansley was moved from FCI Stafford federal prison in Arizona to community confinement in the Phoenix region earlier this week, after serving just under 27 months in jail a spokesperson confirmed.
The spokesperson would to comment on the rationale for the move, but pointed to federal statutes that allow for sentence reductions for good behavior, as well as release to a halfway house for the remaining 12 months of a term.
Chansley’s release comes just weeks after his previous counsel urged his release in light of fresh Capitol riot footage, although his relocation to the halfway house may be unrelated.
For good behavior behind bars, federal offenders can earn a 15% reduction in their jail term, and they can also serve the final 12 months of their sentences in halfway homes at the discretion of the Bureau of Prisons.
In recent weeks, notable personalities like entrepreneur Elon Musk have campaigned for Chansley’s release, claiming fresh video showing him being ‘escorted’ by officers into the Capitol during the melee exonerates from the charges he was convicted of.
