A recent CNN poll reveals that the Democratic Party’s favorability rating has plummeted to a record low of 29%, reflecting growing dissatisfaction among its supporters.
The survey, conducted by SSRS from March 6-9, indicates that many Democrats feel their leaders should take a stronger stance against President Donald Trump.
Among Democratic and Democratic-aligned independents, 57% believe the party should focus on opposing the Republican agenda rather than seeking bipartisan cooperation.
This shift in sentiment is notable, contrasting sharply with a September 2017 poll where 74% of Democrats favored collaboration with Republicans to advance their priorities.
Currently, 52% of Democratic-aligned adults feel the party leadership is steering the party in the wrong direction, a significant change from previous years.
The poll highlights a broader discontent within the party, with only 63% of Democrats expressing a favorable view of their own party, down from 81% at the beginning of President Joe Biden’s administration.
This decline cuts across ideological lines, with favorability ratings dropping significantly among both liberals and moderates.
Political independents also view both major parties unfavorably, with only 19% rating the Democrats positively.
Many Americans believe that both parties hold extreme views, marking a shift from 2022 when the Democratic Party was seen as more mainstream.
The poll also reveals a lack of consensus on party leadership. When asked to name a leader who best reflects Democratic values, many respondents could not identify one, with several naming Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Kamala Harris among others.
