Abbott Vows to Try to Pardon Sergeant Convicted by Soros DA of Killing Armed BLM Protestors

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott reportedly vowed Saturday to pardon a US Army sergeant convicted of fatally shooting a protester during a Black Lives Matter event.

According to the Republican, Sgt. Daniel Perry, 35, was acting in self-defense when he repeatedly discharged his handgun on Garrett Foster, 28, as he marched in the July 25, 2020 Austin event.

The governor blamed the Friday conviction on the county’s Democrat District Attorney José Garza, who is supported by George Soros, and pledged to rein in “rogue District Attorneys.”

Abbott stated that he is seeking that the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles accelerate its assessment of Perry’s case and recommend a pardon, a power that the state constitution does not grant him.

Perry has stated in the almost three years since the incident that he only fired at Foster when the demonstrator brandished an AK-47 at his car.

Perry, who was stationed at Fort Hood, some 70 miles north of Austin, had come across the event while working as a rideshare driver and grew upset when protestors began pounding on his car.

Foster, who was wearing a neoprene vest beneath his T-shirt and carrying an AK-47, a club, and a knife, according to Perry’s lawyers, lifted his pistol first, forcing Perry to fire his handgun in self-defense.
