At a yearly motorcycle event in Red River, New Mexico, at least three people were reportedly killed and five more were hurt on Saturday.
According to reports in the media, Red River Republican Mayor Linda Calhoun said the incident was “gang-related” and that everyone involved is in police custody.
Within 30 seconds of the call, according to Calhoun, the first police officer arrived on the site.
At the 41st Annual Red River Memorial Day Motorcycle Rally, when up to 28,000 motorcyclists from all walks of life line Main Street, shots were fired at five o’clock.
A mountain village called Red River may be found close to the Colorado state boundary, some 170 miles north of Albuquerque.
The New Mexico State Police are receiving assistance from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives in their investigation.
At 10 p.m. on Saturday, the adjacent city of Taos, which is about 40 miles from Red River, enacted an emergency curfew that forbade the sale of alcohol. Sunday morning at 4 a.m.
The yearly motorcycle rally got under way on Thursday and was supposed to go until Monday. Officials in Red River, however, requested that businesses stay closed on Sunday while police continue their investigation.
Late on Saturday night, a Facebook post stated that nobody will be allowed near the crime scene, which encompasses the majority of Main Street.
