Over the past 20 years, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), formerly headed by Dr. Anthony Fauci, has reportedly awarded Dr. Shibo Jiang of the Chinese military various research contracts totalling more than $20 million in federal funding.
Dr. Jiang was named as the lead investigator on the more than $1 million grant Dr. Peter Hotez received from NIAID in 2016 for “biodefense” research.
Dr. Hotez is a member of the Lancet Covid Commission and a well-known opponent of the lab-leak theory.
Due to his schooling at several Chinese military colleges and his employment as a visiting professor there, Dr. Jiang has a long history of having close contacts to the Chinese government.
After criticizing Robert F. Kennedy Jr. on Twitter, Dr. Hotez suddenly came back into the public eye, despite having previously denied any affiliation with the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
Dr. Jiang actively engaged with PLA scientists during this time on a number of articles financed by Chinese government entities.
The People’s Liberation Army’s Guangzhou First Military Medical University awarded Dr. Shibo Jiang a master’s degree, and Xi’an Fourth Military Medical University awarded him a medical doctorate.
Dr. Jiang has held a number of posts after completing his postdoctoral study at Rockefeller University in New York from 1987 to 1990, including serving as a visiting professor at many PLA campuses.
According to the university’s website, he is presently the deputy director of a molecular virology lab at Fudan University in China.
Notably, he worked as an adjunct professor at the Academy of Military Medical Sciences, which the Biden Administration designated as a national security concern in 2021.
