Fox News’ Lara Trump praised new Census Bureau data showing continued population growth across the South, pointing to the region’s increasing number of families and encouraging parents to raise children with conservative values.
Appearing on Fox & Friends Weekend on Saturday, Trump discussed newly released Census Bureau figures indicating that the South has experienced the fastest population growth of any region in the country. According to the data, the population of Southern states has increased by 6% since 2020.
During the segment, co-host Rachel Campos-Duffy highlighted another key finding from the Census Bureau report: the South is the only region in the United States to record growth in its child population since 2020. The region saw a 1.1% increase in children, while the West, Midwest and Northeast all experienced declines ranging from 3.9% to 5.7%.
Trump attributed the migration trend to economic factors, arguing that many Americans are relocating to Southern states because of a lower cost of living and policies that make it easier to raise families. She specifically pointed to Texas and Florida, noting that neither state has a state income tax.
“Look, the migration patterns in this country have been very interesting over the past decade or so. You look at states like New York and California, Rachel, you know this, people have been fleeing those states,” Trump said.
She argued that residents are leaving because they oppose high taxes and what she described as living under “what feels like authoritarian communism in so many respects.”
“Where are they going? They’re going to the south, Florida and Texas,” Trump continued, adding that she and her husband, Eric Trump, also relocated from New York to Florida.
Trump said the affordability and quality of life in Southern states create conditions that make it easier for families to have children. She welcomed the Census Bureau figures showing an increase in the region’s child population and expressed hope that the trend continues.
“Life is more affordable, quality of life is better, we should have more kids and we can afford to have more kids, so obviously we love to see this,” she said. “We want to see more of this happening.”
While saying she would like to see similar growth across the country, Trump also used the discussion to encourage parents in Florida and Texas to instill conservative values in their children.
“I love it all over the country, but I will say this, for the babies being born in Florida and Texas, let’s make sure those babies have the right values,” Trump said.
She concluded by tying those values to future political participation.
“We need more good red voters in states like Texas and Florida, for sure,” Trump said.
