According to a report from the department’s inspector general, the Department of Homeland Security let an illegal immigrant into the country who was on the terrorism watchlist and took two weeks to capture the immigrant following the release.

According to a recently published report, Customs and Border Protection made a number of errors in April 2022 when they detained an illegal immigrant in the Yuma, Arizona, sector of the southern border of the United States.

On April 17, 2022, “Border Patrol apprehended a migrant and their family members” in Yuma, Arizona, claims the report.

The organization claimed that pronouns like “their” and “them” were used to hide the author’s gender in the report.

Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) moved to arrest the person after the release when it was discovered that they were still on the watchlist as of April 21, 2022.

The DHS inspector general recommended that Border Patrol create a better system to identify people on the terrorism watchlist and for better information-sharing protocols for ICE after the actual arrest did not occur until May 6 as a result of paperwork and communication errors.

Agents in the Yuma sector said one reason the person was first freed was because they were busy handling “an increased flow of migrants.”

A record number of people have crossed the border since President Joe Biden entered office, requesting refuge in historic numbers.
