In a Monday interview, Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer (D) stated that she anticipates Vice President Harris, the probable Democratic nominee, to declare a running mate within the next six to seven days.
“Everything is truncated, and she’s going to make that decision probably in the next six, seven days,” Whitmer said during a recent appearance on ‘CBS This Morning.’
“I would imagine we’ll know who her running mate is, and we’ll get ready for convention,” she continued.
Whitmer’s statements are in accordance with the timeline established by the Democratic National Committee (DNC) last week.
The DNC intends to initiate a virtual roll call ballot to determine its presidential nominee by August 1 and for Harris to select a running mate by august 7.
Harris is the sole significant candidate for the party’s nomination, and she has the backing of the majority of the party’s 1,976 delegates required to secure the nomination.
