Podcaster and comedian Adam Carolla criticized former President Joe Biden this week after Biden took aim at President Donald Trump’s renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, arguing that the project has little impact on Americans compared with other issues facing the country.
During Tuesday’s episode of his podcast, Carolla dismissed criticism of Trump’s highly publicized and widely debated reflecting pool project, saying complaints about the renovation were misplaced and disconnected from the concerns of everyday Americans.
“Everything for Democrats is symbolic. It’s all symbolic,” Carolla said. “It’s all like, ‘It’s cruel! He’s mean! He’s doing a thing!’”
Carolla argued that the reflecting pool project itself does not meaningfully affect people’s lives.
“It doesn’t make any difference, the f*ckin’ reflecting pool, whatever he’s doing [does] not have any actual impact on anybody ever,” he said.
The comments came after Carolla played a clip from former President Biden’s appearance at a Democratic Party Gala in Maryland last weekend. During those remarks, Biden criticized Trump and what he described as the president’s “vanity projects.”
According to the article, Biden was also booed during the gala, with one protester shouting “Genocide Joe” in reference to Biden’s approach to Israel’s war in Gaza.
Carolla said he found Biden’s criticism of Trump difficult to take seriously because of what he viewed as the former president’s handling of immigration.
“You, old man, let in 15 million people into this f*ckin’ country and we have no idea who they are,” Carolla said during the podcast.
He continued by claiming that some of those who entered the country included “terrorists,” “rapists” and “killers,” contrasting those concerns with the reflecting pool project.
“That’s impactful,” Carolla said. “The reflecting pool doesn’t make a difference to anybody. No one, you understand?”
Throughout the segment, Carolla argued that Democrats place too much emphasis on symbolic political issues rather than policies that have tangible effects on Americans.
The comedian has repeatedly expressed support for Trump on many issues in recent years while criticizing progressive politicians.
According to the article, Carolla has made clear on his podcast that he has grown frustrated with progressive politics and generally supports Trump on most matters.
Earlier this year, Carolla also appeared on Bill Maher’s “Club Random” podcast, where the two discussed their criticisms of liberals.
During that conversation, Carolla argued that many liberals are driven by what he described as “groupthink” and said he believes they have a strong desire to make others “conform” to their views.
Maher agreed with Carolla’s assessment during the discussion, according to the article, and said he experienced that dynamic firsthand during the COVID-19 lockdowns.
Carolla’s latest remarks add to his ongoing criticism of Democratic leaders, with the comedian arguing that debates over projects such as the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool distract from issues he believes have had a far greater impact on the country. His comments specifically contrasted Biden’s criticism of Trump’s renovation project with what Carolla described as the consequences of the former president’s immigration policies.
