Americans are most likely to believe Dallas and Boston are safe places to live or visit out of 16 major U.S. cities, while they are least likely to say Detroit and Chicago are safe according to a new study newly released by Gallup.
A majority of Americans between the ages of 52% and 63% believe nine other cities to be safe, in addition to the nearly three-quarters of Americans who believe Dallas (74%) and Boston (72%) are safe.
Seattle, Las Vegas, Miami, Minneapolis, Houston, New Orleans, Atlanta, San Francisco, and Washington, D.C. are a few of these cities.
Less than half of Americans believe Philadelphia (47%), New York (41%) and Los Angeles (41%) are safe, along with Detroit (26%) and Chicago (27%).
These other five cities all obtain majority-level unsafe ratings, with the exception of Philadelphia, which is perceived as risky by 50% of American adults.
According to the study, the partisanship of American adults has a significant impact on how they perceive the safety of most of the cities covered by the July 3-27 Gallup poll.
Republicans and Republican-leaning independents are far less likely than Democrats and Democratic-leaning independents to believe that each city is safe, with the exception of Dallas and Miami.
In comparison to the two-point difference in the 2006 poll, the party disparity is currently 29 percentage points on average across the 16 cities.
With the exception of Chicago and Detroit, the majority of Democrats believe that all of the cities are secure places to live or visit.
Republicans, on the other hand, are more likely to believe that only five cities—Las Vegas, Miami, Dallas, Boston, and Houston—are safe.
Seattle and Boston are most likely to be regarded as safe by Democrats, while Dallas and Boston are most likely to be regarded as safe by Republicans.
