The office of Democrat Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer has now announced its intention to create a “Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity and Expression (SOGIE) Consultant” to promote awareness and inclusion among the state’s “LGBTQIA+” children.
Whitmer’s Children’s Services Agency reportedly issued the proposal for the new consultant on September 12th.
The consultant will disseminate surveys to the youth LGBTQIA+ community and report on the results on a regular basis.
Once the survey data is obtained, the consultant will then create technical support packages that will include books, films, webinars, and training materials to teach about issues such as “implicit bias,” stereotypes, and contributions of the LGBTQIA+ group
The consultant will also be asked to “assist LGBTQIA+ adolescents and families,” including access to transportation and education, as well as identify at least five “community resources” for transgender children in many of the state’s most populous counties.
The plan comes as Whitmer prepares to run for reelection against Republican candidate Tudor Dixon.
It also comes as the Democrats’ Children’s Services Agency is being investigated by a federal judge for a devastating January study that exposed the foster system’s flaws.
The plan does not specify what types of questions would be included in the “survey,” which will be delivered to staff, youngsters, and families.
In one questionnaire however, children as young as 10-years-old were asked what gender they identify as as well as whether they “prefer to wear boy clothes or girl clothes.”
Since 2008, when the state resolved a lawsuit filed by the group Children’s Rights alleging that it was failing to keep foster children safe, Michigan’s child welfare system has been subject to federal court review.
As a result of the agreement, Michigan’s foster care system is now frequently exposed to monitoring reports that grade the state on a variety of performance metrics.
Whitmer’s opponent in the race for Governor, Tudor Dixon wasted no time in attacking her Democratic rival when news of the new planned consultant broke. “Gretchen Whitmer will not come out and say that she opposes sex and gender theory being taught to our kids…She won’t even come out and say that it is wrong and obscene for her attorney general to advocate for putting a drag queen in every classroom,” Dixon said.
