On Wednesday, the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) reportedly disclosed the initial casualties of its ground operation in Lebanon.
Eight soldiers were slain in combat with Hezbollah operatives in the southern region of the country.
During a gun battle with Hezbollah operatives in a village in southern Lebanon, all six Egoz commandos were slain.
In the same incident, four soldiers and an additional officer sustained severe injuries.
Hezbollah operatives launched mortars at the soldiers during the extraction of the casualties from a building following the gun battle, resulting in the wounded of additional troops.
A separate incident resulted in the deaths of two soldiers from the Golani recon unit, while another soldier sustained a severe injury.
In a third incident, a combat physician from the 51st Battalion of the Golani Brigade sustained a severe injury.
Following the IDF’s announcement of the soldiers’ fatalities, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu issued a video statement conveying his condolences to their families.
A probe conducted by the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) into the fatal battle that resulted in the deaths of six Egoz commandos revealed that the IDF initiated an offensive against a village near the frontier early this morning.
The village was located near Hezbollah’s infrastructure, which the army was attempting to dismantle.
The troops encountered a party of Hezbollah operatives and exchanged fire with them after entering a building in the village.
Subsequently, a series of additional confrontations ensued in the vicinity, during which dozens of Hezbollah operatives fired anti-tank missiles, mortars, and opened fire on the soldiers.
In total, six Egoz soldiers were slain and an additional five sustained severe injuries. Several additional individuals were transported to hospitals for injuries that were more minor.
