In a recent survey, the majority of Americans expressed concern regarding political violence, with many attributing this concern to the rioting that occurred on the Capitol on January 6, 2021.
A recent survey conducted by Navigator, a Democratic research firm, revealed that 83% of respondents were concerned about the current threat of political violence in the United States.
Additionally, they expressed apprehension regarding the potential escalation of political violence in the future, with 85% expressing some level of concern.
The pollsters discovered that Democrats are marginally more likely to be concerned than Republicans regarding a perceived threat.
In contrast to the 80% of Republicans who express concern over political violence today, approximately 86% of Democratic respondents do so.
A similar concern regarding future political violence was expressed by 79 percent of Republicans and 93% of Democrats.
A similar sentiment is held by 47% of respondents, who believe that Republicans are more likely to resort to political violence in order to advance their agenda.
In terms of party composition, 80% of Democrats and 68% of Republicans agreed that political violence is more prevalent among their respective parties. In the independent category, 38% identified as Republicans, 23% as Democrats, and 39% as undecided.
The results of the poll indicate that the January 6 uprising, during which rioters invaded the United States Capitol in an effort to overturn the 2020 election results in favor of former President Trump, had a lasting effect.
Roughly 75% of respondents expressed their dissent towards the activities of “the Trump supporters,” who breached the Capitol, whereas 59% of Republicans held the same view.
The sentiments of the majority of Democrats (87 percent) and independents (82 percent) were identical.
The incident, which is exemplified by assertions that the 2020 election was pilfered, has engendered divisions within the Republican Party, causing some dissenters to experience social exclusion within their organization.
From November to December, the Navigator investigation was conducted among 1,000 registered voters.
