On Oct. 19, prominent conservative activist Matt Schlapp reportedly sexually groped a staffer for Republican Senate candidate Herschel Walker as he drove Schlapp back to his Atlanta hotel, according to the staffer.

Schlapp, the leader of the American Conservative Union and the principal organizer of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), was in Georgia for a Walker campaign event when the alleged sexual assault occurred, according to The Daily Beast’s Roger Sollenberger on Thursday night.

He said that when driving Schlapp back to the hotel, Schlapp leaned across and “fondled” his crotch for a lengthy amount of time while he froze in horror, describing the incident as “scarring” and “humiliating.” He stated that he turned down Schlapp’s request to come up to his room.

The colleague, who is in his late 30s, told The Daily Beast that if Schlapp refuted his charges, he would come forward with his identity.

Schlapp’s lawyer, Charlie Spies, told The Daily Beast in a statement that Schlapp denies any wrongdoing.

The worker claimed he didn’t take legal action because he was afraid it would have personal and professional ramifications and contribute to the rising criticism of Walker’s ultimately lost Senate run.

The Walker campaign confirmed the staffer’s description of the events.
