In response to the alleged Hezbollah commander responsible for the Saturday attack in the Israel-controlled Golan Heights that resulted in the deaths of 12 children, the Israeli military reportedly conducted a strike in Beirut.
This targeted action was taken amid concerns of a broader conflict.
According to the official National News Agency of Lebanon, a loud explosion was reported in the Haret Hreik neighborhood of Beirut, which was later determined to be an airstrike.
The explosion could be heard from miles away, as the sound of sirens wailing.
According to the Israeli military, the attack was a “targeted strike in Beirut, on the commander responsible for the murder of the children” in the Golan Heights and against other Israeli civilians.
According to the official news agency, first responders who arrived at the site of the attack transported a number of injured individuals to three hospitals in Beirut.
It was not immediately apparent whether any individuals were slain in the strike.
The Iran-backed Hezbollah has been accused by Israel and the U.S. of carrying out the strike in Majdal Shams, a community of the Druze religious minority, on Saturday.
The strike resulted in the largest loss of civilian life for Israel since the Hamas assaults in southern Israel on October 7.
Hezbollah denied any involvement in the deaths in Majdal Shams, but it claimed responsibility for other assaults in the vicinity on the same day, such as the launch of a rocket at an Israeli military facility located a few miles from the strike site.
Israel and Hezbollah have been involved in a series of back-and-forth battles across the Israeli-Lebanese border for months.
However, the attack on Tuesday was the second occasion that Israel has struck Beirut in the nine months of war.
In January, a senior Hamas commander was also killed in the Lebanese capital by an Israeli airstrike.
