The Israeli military base in central Israel was reportedly attacked by the Lebanese militia Hezbollah with a suicide drone, resulting in the deaths of four soldiers and the injury of dozens.
This incident highlighted a vulnerability in Israel’s highly regarded air defense system that military officials claim is difficult to overcome.
The drone, which was launched on Sunday night, was able to evade Israeli forces’ detection before colliding with a Golani infantry brigade military base near Binyamina.
Magen David Adom, Israel’s national emergency service, reported that 61 individuals were injured in total.
According to the state-owned Army Radio, the drone struck a dining hall while soldiers were consuming dinner, and warning sirens were not activated.

According to images and videos published in Israeli media, the drone caused a substantial breach in the ceiling of the dining hall, resulting in blood splattered on the floor.
The assault was attributed to Hezbollah, which claimed that it had launched a squadron of attack drones at the base.
According to current and former military officials, Israel has encountered difficulty in devising effective solutions to counter drones fired by Hezbollah, particularly during the detection phase.
Israel’s military has prioritized long-standing threats, including projectiles and missiles, and has regarded drones—or unmanned aerial vehicles, UAVs—as a secondary concern, despite the fact that they have played a critical role in the conflict in Ukraine.
The Israeli military stated that it had issued a directive to prioritize targeting the Hezbollah drone unit in response to Hezbollah’s drone attack, with the objective of dismantling its capabilities.
